Shelton Martial Arts Academy

Shelton Martial Arts Academy has been providing members of our community with Taekwondo training since 1991. Taekwondo is a Korean art that incorporates foot and hand strikes as the primary means of self-defense. Students begin by learning the basic movements and strikes that will serve as the basis for more advanced skills they will learn throughout their Taekwondo journey. The curriculum also includes forms/patterns, free sparring, and board breaking. A strong emphasis is also placed on teaching students to embody the five tenets of TKD: Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.

 

Classes are held Tuesdays and Friday evenings in the Dance Studio at the Shelton Community Center. Participants pay a monthly tuition of $70.00.

US Sports Institute- Multi Sports Program 

 

The Parent & Me Multi Sports Squirts program allows children to experience a variety of sports throughout the program with a helping hand from Mom or Dad! Children have the opportunity to try Lacrosse, Soccer, T-Ball, Track & Field, Parachute Games and more* in a safe and structured environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to spend quality time together while easing your child into social situations with support and confidence. As with all Squirts programs, the emphasis is on safety, fun and learning. All sports are presented in a positive and relaxed environment with an emphasis on participation, interaction and communication.

Ages 2-3 Years

 

The Squirts Multi Sports program allows children to experience a variety of sports throughout the program. It is the perfect introduction to athletics for your future sports star! Each session begins with a brief introduction to the day's sport and equipment before jumping into the first skill-acquisition activity. In addition to emphasizing the fundamentals of each sport, each activity is designed to improve hand-eye coordination, balance, agility and movement. Each session finishes with an exciting game-related activity or scrimmage. All sports are taught in a safe, structured and fun learning environment designed to ensure learning and most importantly: fun, fun, fun!

Participants will have the opportunity to try Lacrosse, Soccer, T-Ball, & Track & Field.*

The Senior Squirts Sports program is an introductory level program, this class is the perfect stepping stone for children who have graduated from the Squirts Multi Sports program or for children looking for their first ever sports experience. Players will learn key skills through small-sided scrimmages in a variety of sports, including Lacrosse, Soccer, T-Ball, and Track & Field*.

Each session begins with a brief introduction to the day's sport and equipment before jumping into the first skill-acquisition activity. In addition to learning the fundamentals of each sport, each activity is designed to improve hand-eye coordination, balance, agility and movement. Each session finishes with an exciting game-related activity. All Senior Squirts curricula create an environment which allows players to develop and progress within sport.

 

All equipment needed for these programs will be provided.

Ages 3-5 Years

 

 

HappyFeet League is an excellent opportunity to watch your little one develop and showcase their HappyFeet soccer skills. Each league game is preceded by a 30-minute HappyFeet class. Each class, the children will be taken on an amazing adventure using their imaginations and will be developing great gross motor and soccer specific skills along the way. Our league curriculum maximizes the fun and is the perfect way to introduce kids to organized team sports.

Ages 3-5 years.

JumpBunch Physical Fitness:

"Warm Up" with JumpBunch! Each week, JumpBunch Coaches teach lively, energetic classes that offer an opportunity for children to build sports skills such as throwing, kicking, balance, agility, and coordination. All of this is done through a variety of fun, non-competitive activities. Upbeat music coupled with a different sport each week assures that children are actively engaged and excited for each class! The winter session provides children with an introduction to kickball, hockey, bullseye, cardio/rebounder activities, basketball, and bowling!

Ages 2 w/ caregiver & Ages 3 - 5 years.

Lil' Dragons Karate:

The Lil' Dragons program is designed to teach basic karate skills to preschool age children. Students progress by mastering skills that focus on behavioral, motor, and technical skills. Positive reinforcement teaches students focus, discipline, self-control, and respect in a fun and energizing way. *For new students, an additional $25 is to be paid to the instructor at the first class for a uniform.

Ages 3 - 5 years

 

Music & Movement:

Music & Movement features parachute time, puppets, musical instruments, and costume character appearances along with songs to sing along with and to dance to.

Ages 1 - 5 years.

Tap & Ballet Dance:

These dance classes are an introduction to various dance techniques and allow children to express themselves through creative movement. Dancers increase flexibility, coordination, and strength as well as improve balance, posture, grace, and rhythm. Children discover an appreciation of music while improving self-control, group cooperation, self-confidence and respect. The final class is a showcase for the dancers to perform in front of family and friends. *Dance shoes can be purchased at Payless.

Ages 3-4 years & 5 -6 years

TumbleTrain Gymnastics: 

Children move at their own pace in this introduction to gymnastics class. Beginning with an open gym time, the students can explore all of the colorful equipment such as tunnels, hoops, mats, balance beams, and more. A variety of props are used to develop fine motor skills, balance, strength, and more. The caregiver acts as a second teacher in this class.

Ages 18 months - 2.5 years w/ caregiver, Ages 2.5 - 3.5 w/ caregiver, & Ages 3.5 - 5 years
